An Irish visitor and her newcomer friend take off on a sober West Coast adventure
I’m an Irish cáilín (girl) from Dublin. I was recently spending a few weeks in L.A. in a friend’s apartment (he was living in Stockholm), when he contacted me to say that he was flying back to attend a convention in a place called Eugene, Oregon. I was thrilled to realize that Oregon was just up the road from L.A. and was delighted to get to go to an AA convention in America with the added bonus of seeing my friend! It was only when I started to look up flights, train prices and coach travel itineraries that I realized that “up the road” was not entirely true.
