Knowing When to Leave

Lost in the prestige of a highly stressful job, she used the AA tools to learn what was really important

When I was 12 years sober I found employment at a sexy start-up company in an even sexier tech-hub community. I worked hard to be hired there and when I got the job, I idealized my status as an employee. I had just emerged through a couple of rounds of Step work. God’s grace had helped get me through what had been the most difficult and least enjoyable years of my sobriety. This stretch was made long and difficult by my refusal to live in God’s will instead of my own. I really believed that this new job was my reward for turning back to God and AA’s life-saving program as my design for living.
